Shower tub floor squishy & moving
Author: NewbieOwner (MD)

Hi all,

We bought our house last year and are still learning about it.

We have a 2nd floor tub shower and the floor of the shower was always a bit soft. Recently we had many guests staying over and the squeaking/squishy feeling has increased. There either seems to be foam moving around or water under the liner.

The tub is a cast-iron tub from 1958 and the liner + wall was installed on top of it in 1990s. Other than that I do not know much about it. There does not seem to be any leak or too much load on the walls below - yet.

Reading online gives me an estimate of over 2k for a new liner. Can you please advice on what I should be thinking here?

Thanks!

F

That is a common problem with liners. Water has gotten between the tub and the liner creating a water bubble. If it is still under warranty, call the liner installing company and have the drain the water then reseal the liner so it does not happen again.

Liner was installed in 1990s long before we bought the house (in 2015). Will work on finding the warranty information - thanks!

Other than that - will this lead to overload on the tub or water leaking into the walls?

Nothing. The water is inside the tub, just as if you had filled it, but the water WILL become foul over time.
