I am paying a contractor to finish my basement which includes a bathroom with a shower. The plumbing under the slab was put in when we built our house. See the image below of the rough plumbing before the concrete was poured. I have a question about the venting. Currently the only vent line that the contractor is using is the one behind the sink, which is the one in the top of the photo. The vent line close to the shower (shower drain is located under the black box with rocks on it) is still capped. Is my shower drain too far away from the vent?

that vent needs to be used.
the toilet flushing past the shower trap will syphon that trap if it's vent is not used.
also, my code says plastic pipe must be surrounded by soft sand for 6 inches in all directions.(not sharp gravel).
get the contractor to follow regulations or get another contractor...

Packy, thanks for your reply. I should note that the contractor finishing my basement is not who put in the rough plumbing under the slab. That was my builder, about 6 years ago.

I found in my research elsewhere that the trap must be within 5 feet of the vent. Would that apply here?

a trap must be within a certain distance from its vent but that is not the shower trap vent it is the toilet vent. the shower vent is the closer pipe in your picture.
if the contractor does not want to utilize it then get someone who understands plumbing codes.
the below the floor plumbing is installed correctly.
the contractor's refusal to use what is there is the problem.
also... put fine sand around the pipes.. not sharp edged gravel..
