I can't get the plug to my mixing spool out. It is on a Moen shower.

if the water is off and the horseshoe clip has beem removed then you may need a special tool.

Try tapping gently on the plug with a small, light hammer. It may be all you need.

We have great luck with a cheap dent puller from any auto parts store.. put the screw that holds the handle into the dent puller and tap...tap.. tap they come out quickly I'd say 85% of the time.

I have changed the cartridge all ready. (No more drips!) Now I only have hot water.

turn off the water, remove the cartridge and turn water back on briefly. may be some debris that needs to be flushed out.

Which cartridge did you use? 1222 or 1225?
