 know these old tools?
Author: poole2000 (TX)

Does anyone know anything about these old plumbing tools? They belonged to my grandfather and his dad. Does anyone know if anyone local to the Dallas/Ft. Worth area would be able to help me possibly place value on them? Are any of them even still used?

Any help is appreciated.

first is a chain snapper for soil pipe. still used today
second is some kind of threader for steel pipe. don't recognize it so can't say if still used.
third are various pipe threading tools. still used today.

#2 is a Ridgid geared pipe threader. Look for a model # like maybe 141 and then search ebay with "Ridgid" and the model #.

To a Plumber unfortunately these items will have no value.

They do for someone who does steel gas piping, especially for the larger sizes.

In the third photo, the tool with the two chains may be a "come along" for pulling the spigot end of cast iron into a gasketed cast iron hub, although the one I have uses a saddle device.

The tool in the first photo looks like a very primitive version of a cast iron pipe cracker. It's positioned as you would a chain wrench, but when you apply force thru those long handles the chain tightens with great crushing force around the pipe and it fractures it, usually leaving a surprisingly clean edge. You can see a more modern version of this in action on YouTube. Just look for "pipe cracker."
Two of the T-handled items in the group photo appear to be pipe cutters. The smaller one would be for items like copper tubing, the bigger one for small galvanized or black pipe. They haven't changed much in a century. smiling smiley
The small round items would seem to be threading dies for different sizes of pipe.
From the picturer it's hard to tell what the item with the two chains is.
