We moved into a house that was previously owned by an older gentleman. He turned off the water to the basement bathroom since he wasn't using it and I have yet to turn it back on. I noticed a couple days ago the toilet bowl is completely empty and was wondering what should I do since I have no idea how long it has been off for? My guess is over a year. It's not just the toilet also I'm assuming the shower and sink haven't been used. Help!

shouldn't be a problem.. evaporation is a natural occurrence.

You could manually fill the bowl with a bucket of water, or you can turn the valve back on. It's likely you'll encounter a problem of some sort when you do though. The packing nut may drip on the valve, the fill valve may fail to shut the water off, the flapper may leak thru, etc. When the water has been off that long, rubber parts begin to deteriorate.

Little trick*...pour a 1/2 cup of vegetable oil into the water in the bowl and it won't evaporate for over a year.
