Air gap hole drilled too far from sink
Author: Tsang4 (CA)

My contractor drilled an air gap hole too far from sink.
Current water spilled everywhere instead of to the sink.
What should be the remedy?

Water is not suppose to exit the air gap, unless the drain is plugged. If you have a garbage disposal, did the plug get removed from the hose nipple(it should have been).

it looks in the right place to me.
as said, check the discharge side hose for a kink or a restriction. there should be no water at the air gap.

Or there may be a trap in the hose where it is lower than its connection point.

Thanks, the hose underneath is indeed very long.
We made a high loop. But maybe we need to replace a shorter hose.

Or maybe the air gap water flow is too fast ?
Or maybe the hose connection to the air gap is in the wrong side?

We will look into this and get back.

So the hole is ok?

Yes, the location of the hole is correct.

The air gap has a large and small nipple that the hoses attach to. The DW drain hose goes to the smaller one and the larger goes to the disposal/tailpiece. The hose to the disposal/tailpiece needs to flow downhill to the disposal/tailpiece and be as short as possible and have no kinks. Check the disposal nipple for a plug that wasn't knocked out if it's new.
