 Hot water cylinder drain blocked
Author: nikm (Non-US)

Our Hot water cylinder drain seems to be blocked, I think this because this pipe also runs up the side of the hot water cylinder and connects to the pressure release valve and a venting pipe just before this valve. This venting pipe is occasioning dripping water from it (rather than the water exiting down the drain pipe and out to the gully trap)

I’m wondering how to go about flushing out this drain pipe.

We have a concrete floor so replacing the pipe would be a major. I am thinking about disconnecting the drain pipe at the base near where it enters into the floor and then trying to blow compress air though the drain pipe out towards the gully trap

Do you think compressor air would help flush out the pipe?

Any advice would be great.

Thank you

I think you are referring to the your water heater (cylinder) and the Temperature/Pressure relief valve and the drain tube attached to it.

Can you provide a picture of your heater and pipe. If you have an old heat system, what you wish to do could be more difficult than you can handle.

Best Wishes

Thanks for your reply.

so as to confirm that the Drain pipe was clear. i disconnect the link pipe between inlet and drain. then i tried threading a stiff wire though the drain, but it only went in to where the pipe enters the wall.
I then tried using a air compressor but was unable to find where drain exits the house.
I guess i could run some water into this pipe to confirm that it is indeed draining out.

thanks again for your help.

Mark
