 Foul smell
Author: jbusch (WI)

Hello, Friday morning a foul smell began in my masterbath. I do believe it is coming from the toilet. Can you please tell me if this is an indication of something horrible happening that I should have it looked at? Thank you for your input and time!

It's usually an indication of a faulty wax seal. The toilet will need to be removed, the flange cleaned and inspected, and reset with a new seal. The bowl may also need to be shimmed so that there is no movement whatsoever between it and the floor, that's usually what damages the original wax seal.

Do you have a tub or shower in the room that is not used? Smells are hard enough to diagnose when at the location, much harder over the Internet.
