You call them by what they are, i.e., tees, elbows, crosses, etc. And, "press fittings" are special type of fitting used EVERYWHERE, but seldom in kitchens or drain systems.

I think she might be referring to "pressure" fittings when she said "press"? Not sure...

In a classroom setting one can be very generalized.

But if you want to get a fitting for a specific purpose when you walk up to a plumbing supply store counter, you most likely need to call out a fitting by its purpose, size, materiel, thickness, shape, connection type and more...for example..."I need a 2 inch Schedule 40 PVC 90 degree or 1/4 bend long sweep drain elbow with a street connection" where the "schedule 40" is optional because I don't think DWV fittings come in anything other than sch40.

There is also Sch 80.

Not for DWV because the smaller I.D. would create a "snag" at every fitting.

quote; "pressure" fittings when she said "press"?

WOrds have very specific meanings and you have to take them the way they are used, and NOT "assume" because that can create misunderstandings.

That all depends on what the meaning of "is" is.
