Knocking When Cold Water is Run - Recent Garbage Disposal Replacement
Author: Deltona_DIY (FL)

Hello,

Recently (a couple of days ago), I changed replaced my garbage disposal. I turned off all the water under the sink, and then turned it back it on after I was done. I have run the dishwasher and the disposal with no issues; however, when I turn on the cold water for the sink, I get very slow flow and knocking. The hot water now gets hotter faster (which is nice), and there is no knocking. I have read other posts about knocking. Do I need to reduce the hot water (turn it down, if you will)? I did not have this thumping before, but it did take a bit of time for the hot water to heat up (which means more water waste), so I am pleased with the new hot water flow (somewhere between getting hot super fast and super slow is okay).

Thank you!

BTW, from another post, I tested the spray. I held the spray, turned on the hot water, no knock. I switched to cold water, knocking.

People who actually know what they are talking about will be along shortly. But I just changed a cartridge on a tub mixer and had a huge knocking problem. I didn't have the cold shut off turned all the way back on. I opened them up and it stopped

When you turned the cold water off, you dislodged some debris or a tiny piece of a washer. It is now blocking off part of the water flow. Start by removing the cold water supply from the valve and look for the obstruction at that connection. If it's clear there you can either backflush the faucet with hot water while the cold supply line is disconnected, or you can disassemble the faucet to find the blockage.
