 Bathroom Sink clogged
Author: Herpgal (NY)

This is a really basic question. My sink was draining really slow so I poured in a chemical declogger, following the directions.
It seemed to get worse instead of better so I decided that plunging it might help. Bad move. Went from slow draining to no draining.
After a while, it did go down, but was still clogged so I added more gel stuff to it and now it won't go down at all.
I am hesitant to try and plunge it again because it looks like I forced water out the trap the last time I did it. '
There was an area under the sink that was wet...a paper towel roll took up most of the water, thank goodness.

There is a metal trap underneath connected to a pipe that is Y shaped. The drain goes into one side of the Y, and the other side dead ends with a square 'bolt' looking end to it.

Can I open that end to clean it out or do I have to monkey with the trap itself?
Or should I just try and find a plumber first?

I know that I have to take as much water/gel stuff out of the sink first.

Your opinions? Thanks

The square bolt looking thing is a cleanout plug. Is it plastic or metal ? If plastic you can try to remove it.

be careful with chemicals in the pipe. try plunging it with a rag held over the sink overflow hole. trying to force the water/chemical down the drain.
once you open the cleanout a snake wire should clear the stoppage.

Dangerous acid chemical that are stuck in the drain waste can cause heat and burns. Forcing them with a plunger can cause injury and burns.

Take the empty containers back to where you purchased them and get a refund. Take a picture of under your sink for us to determine of you have a drain with open waste or a drain with pop-up assembly.

Best Wishes
