 Centerlines do not match
Author: benbokb (UT)

I just bought a Moen faucet for my bathroom sink and the centerline of the hot and cold lines of the sink is larger than the faucet. Meaning that the faucet lines are not wide enough to fit the faucet all the way flush. It appears that it is less than 1/16" too small. Has anyone ran across this and is it possible that it is just a manufacturing flaw. Any tips on how to hone the holes to reduce the centerline distance?

Is it a porcelain sink ? Does the faucet have brass shanks for it's water connection ?

Is the sink new? If yes, can you return/exchange it?

he problem is the sink not the faucet. Depending on the sink's material, you may be able to "ream" the holes to fit.

It is a porcelan sink, what is the best way to ream this material?

i wouldn't ream the porcelain. you will chip the edge of the hole.
exchange the faucet for one that mounts differently.
it will have to be one that is single handle.

Thanks Steve,
No, it is not new. Probably around 50 years old and tiled in.

After reading through all of the replies, North Carolina's question about the brass, made me think. After looking at it closely, the part that would not fit was probably around 1/4" thick, so I took at my trusty dremel and shave about 1/32" off of each side. Fits nicely now! Thanks for all of the replies
