New toilet too far from wall
Author: Wgiusti (CA)

I just had a kohler cimarron elongated toilet put in my parents 1970s house and the tank is almost 3" from the wall! The old toilet, while obviously being an older toilet with a larger tank, was SO close to the wall that
It left a mark on the wall where it had been. Is it possible to have it moved back more?

Toilets have a "rough-in" dimension, that is the measurement from the center of the flange to the finished wall. 12" is standard, but some 10" and 14" models are available. Measure the distance from the bolts that hold the toilet to the flange, to the wall behind the toilet. You might have a 14" rough-in flange, the Kohler was a 14" model and the Toto is 12" or 10".
