unless it is european model, the front access panel (down low) comes off by removing a couple of screws. you can then see the entire workings of hoses, tubing etc.. you'll see water if there is a leak..

or, if properly installed, a leak should be visible w/o panel removal

the DW should be installed ON TOP OF the finished floor

the pan directs any tiny leakage out to the front where it can be seen BEFORE major damage

if, however, new flooring has been installed AROUND the DW by the local shoemaker ..........................

The pans that I have used under dishwashers has 4 curbs, the front curb is hinged so that it folds down to allow the dishwasher to be slid into position and then it folds back up. It has a drain hole so that any small leakage can be piped away.

the drain hole will often BECOME the problem

dust, dirt, etc. clogging same - then the pan overflows INSIDE the cabinetry

IMO better and SIMPLER to merely direct leakage to a visible area - DWs seldom 'burst', but oft 'drip'

should the 'safety fill float' fail the 'small hole' will be of no use anyway

i put in an expensive DW for a customer. the kitchen was tile floor over cement pad. very rare for our area.
after installation i tested the machine (ran it thru a partial cycle and let it pump out) to check for leaks.. all was well. said good bye and left. well, the solonoid valve was bad and never shut off completely.
after i left the homeowners put in a load of dishes and went out for dinner and a couple of drinks. when they returned the kitchen had 1/2 inch of water in it. he opened the DW door and there was about a foot of water in it. fortunately they were nice people who realized i had no way of knowing the valve was defective.
so, a pan would not have helped since the leak came from around the door not from below.

packy,

The installation of the {pick a brand} dishwasher pan can save expensive repairs caused by an undetected water leak. We refer to it as a leak indicator pan as its sole purpose is to notify the owner of a leak that would otherwise not be seen.

This dishwasher pan is made of durable recycled ABS plastic. The dimensions are 24" wide by 20 5/8" deep, with 1" tall edges along the sides & back. It is similar to pans that you will find that go under water heaters and washing machines. The difference is that our pan is not made to hold water. It's sole purpose is to bring the water caused by small leaks to the front of the dishwasher where you can see it to warn you that there is a problem.

A dishwasher leak is often so small that it goes unnoticed and is absorbed into the flooring, the cabinets, or walls, causing thousands of dollars in damage before you even recognize that there is a problem. If you are one of the fortunate ones that have not experienced this, ask your friends & family and discover just how often this really does happen. The installation of the {pick a brand} drip pan will potentially save thousands of dollars, as well as the head ache & inconvenience of costly repairs caused by an undetected leak.
