So I bought a house. It had been abandoned for 4 years and never winterized. Ended up replacing all the plumbing with PEX. I stubbed out 1/2" pex into the kitchen sink cabinet (not pretty but I'm on a timeline here). Added a quarter stop and hooked into the existing old sink faucet. When I turn the faucet on, hot or cold, there's what I can only describe as a stutter before the water starts coming out. It takes maybe half a second before flow starts, and just before it starts, I hear what I guess is the water slamming through the valve? Is that the stuttering sound? Anyone experienced this? Maybe there's air trapped in the faucet somewhere?

spray hose diverter is most likely the cause.

No doubt, the diverter is at fault.

First try repeatedly activating the sprayer. It may be trapped air and once it is out things will be fine.

Air does NOT get "trapped" in a faucet. Replace the diverter.
