Thermostatic valve with volume control and diverter
Author: das (FL)

I am planning a new shower with both a fixed and a handheld head, and I would like to install a 2-handle thermostatic valve with built-in volume control and diverter. I found two that seem to fit that description: the Hansgrohe iBox Universal Plus Rough and the American Standard R522 Rough. Does anyone have experience that could help me decide between those, or perhaps have a different suggestion?

with those, you will get either/or but not both functions.

If you pair a Delta R10000 rough and 17T Trim with a R11000 rough and a T11800 or R11900 series trim with 3 port 3 function cartridge, this will give you what you want. See the link and scroll to the bottom of the page to see the water patterns servicing either or both heads. The trims are available in various finishes.

Thank you for your suggestion. I looked at Delta, but I was hoping to avoid having to install a separate diverter valve. The Delta website says they will soon have Monitor 27 and 24 Series valve trims with an integrated diverter, like the Hansgrohe and Am Standard units, but the Delta trims utilize a pressure-balanced rather than thermostatic cartridge.

The Delta thermostatic cartridge is made by Hansgrohe. Next time you replace a Delta thermostatic cartridge separate the housing and you will find a Hansgrohe 94282000 cartridge inside. Hansgrohe is a Masco brand just like Delta.
