 Saylor tub valves
Author: Siberta (MD)

I have a leaking hot water stem. It has been stubborn, to say the least. I bought a new stem and installed it but it continued to drip. Tried a few things with it, new washer and screw, new packing reinstalled it and still leaking. Bought a second stem, maybe the first one was defective. Leaks worst! Went back to the first stem since it only drips. Seems like the valve will not seat properly. Any suggestions?

You need to replace the STEM and SEAT at the same time, the seat most likely has a small groove in it from the water leaking past it, shut the water off pull the NEW stem and trim using your little fingernail see if you can feel a click when it crosses the groove. If you have the tools to remove the seat (Seat Wrench) remove it and inspect it in the daylight. look closely because even the smallest groove will cause a leak, once you have the seat removed take it to your nearest parts store and have it matched with the one that you took out. Buy 2 and replace Both at the same time
