Hi, Would you explain to me why whole house water filters are placed after the pressure tank instead of before the pressure tank? I would prefer to have filtered water, cleaner water, in the pressure tank. Thank you!

Most well pumps are of the submersible type meaning they are 'positive displacement'. If the pump is running, it has potential under some conditions to develop its maximum 'shut off head' which can often approach or exceed 100 psi. A filter installed in the discharge line can become clogged with the material it is removing causing the pump to ramp up high pressure. Because the pressure switch and relief valve are on the downstream side of the filter in this case, they don't 'see' the increase in pressure and fail to respond. If the pipe/fittings/filter head and housing are strong enough, the system will be ok. If not, there's gonna be a mess.

Correct, in other words if the filter is before the tank, and becomes clogged ,something could burst.

Both of the previous comments bode true, if installed before the tank the filter would quickly become clogged resulting in excessive pressures in the filter canister which could result in failure, Just cut a well storage tank apart last night and will post pics tomorrow, NOT a Pretty sight
