 Water Meter Box in Basement?
Author: juvhag22 (MD)

Why would there be a grey water meter box in my basement floor? It's not even very close to where the water main enters the home (from underneath the floor) and where the shut-off valve is. This box is also not in the path of the water main as it enters (it enters to the left of the shut-off valve, this box is pretty far to the right of it as well as several feet inside the wall).

It's 12 inches x 14 inches. The words "Water Meter" are across the bottom with Jones Mfg Co being across the top.

Just because it says "water meter" does not necessarily mean that is what it is. Pull the cover off and see what is down there.

It may have been used for another purpose, like a future basement bathroom tub or shower drain.

Thanks ... the shower / bath drain rough-in makes sense. I might try and also Google it so I can find a key
