SO....6 year State water heater tank rusty/leaking into drip pan. I am getting several estimates & recommendations regarding best water electric water heater. We may not live in our home but another few years, so interested in decent 6 yr warranty if available. Home Depot & Lowe's are both reasonable. One has Rheem & other has Whirlpool. Someone please advise which way to go asap. Thanks!

As a practical matter, it really might not make any difference. EVERY company has heaters that fail after just a couple of years and others that seem to last forever. Basically, it depends on many factors, few of which you or the maker can control, such as, quality of water, temperature of the water, amount of water used, etc. A 9, 10, or 12 year heater is usually just a 6 year one with an extended warranty policy. In fact some companies just send you a new decal to place over the 6 year one when you upgrade to a longer warranty.

I prefer a Rheem over a Whirlpool by a country mile.

Is there a reason why you prefer Rheem over Whirpool? Just curious.

usually just personal preference, and other plumbers would have just the opposite preferences.

I purchased the GE hybrid 50ga 1 yr ago. Been very happy with it. Utility co. in my area gave a rebate on this unit. Could not say No. Very energy efficient.
