sure is OK..
how many wraps depends on how thick the tape is.
some professional grade tape such as blue monster is much thicker and only needs 2-3 wraps. some others are so thin you can see thru them and you need 6 wraps.

I've had so many leaks on PVC threads, I use tape and silicone.

Technucally, it is TPFE tape, NOT "Teflon", and that is the ONLY time I use it. An analysis of failed PCV threaded joints, years ago, found that MOST were caused by using too much tape.

Usually, anything over 3 wraps.

I haven't had problems using 4 and the study mentioned by hj above is a good thing to know. I may try 3 wraps for awhile and see how well that works.
