I recently remodeled my kitchen (new cabinets, counter top and sink). There is a strong chemical type odor coming from the cabinet under the new stainless sink. After much investigation as to the odor source, it appears to come from the pads that are installed onto the bottom of the sink. I assume the pads are there to either dampen the pink noise of the steel sink or to protect the finish of the sink below it as they are stacked on each other in the warehouse. Maybe the pads serve both issues.
In any case, this odor is from the pads or the adhesive used to attach the clue the pads to the sink bottom. Either way, it is driving my wife crazy as she is very allergic to toxic type odors that do not bother other people. The sink company is balking on helping us, saying "nobody else has complained about odor with their sinks".
Has anyone experienced this with a new sink or do you have any suggestions on a cure for the odor?

The pads are for noise dampening . You could remove them, clean the area well, and reinstall some type of insulation for the noise.

I am attempting to get the sink company to exchange the sink for a porcelain sink which has no pads but don't know what that might cost me. I have considered removing the pads and painting on some sound damening material that claims no odor after it cures. Would that be a good option?
