Plastic cap got flushed and got past the trap
Author: rhowar1 (WY)

A plastic cap got flushed down the toilet a few days ago. Somehow it got passed the trap in the toilet and now it's in the drain. My downstairs toilet still flushes. The two toilets upstairs don't now one of my showers is backed up. I tried snaking it but there's nothing for the coil to catch onto. I really can't afford to call a plumber because I'm not working right now. So I really need to try and do this on my own. Can anyone help me? Thank you in advance.

i find it hard to believe that a cap small enough to pass thru a toilet trapway can clog a main drain.
i'm not saying it did not happen, i'm saying i can't believe it. it should just wash right away.
how did you go about snaking the pipe. thru a cleanout? remove a toilet?
i would think even bumping into a stuck cap would get it moving along given that there is a whole bunch of water behind it.

Thank you for your response. I took the offending toilet off and went about 5 feet or so down. I'm wondering if I can get the access off the main if I can push it that far and retrieve it that way? Unfortunately, the access was put on by a roto-rooter man and none of my Allen wrenches at the right size.

You'll probably want to remove the toilet and snake from there. If you can push the cap a little bit it should flow freely out to the main.
