after three cartridge tries, tub still has a drip. Could the problem be solved with a larger o ring or using vascolene or is there some plummers trick?

Which cartridge? Did you have to "dig" the old cartridge out of the body?

1222 moen cartrige, difficult time pulling the cartrige, had to pry it out, did not have to dig into it. There was rubber gasget parts inside and stuck, which I removed.

Are you using Moen cartridges, or aftermarket?

I'd inspect better. You're missing something. Look for damage when you remove the cartridge. Look close...well lit...and magnified.

If the body is not scratched at an "O" ring seal point it should not drip, because ALL the sealing points are inside the new cartridge, and it would be rare to get more than one defective ones.
