hellenbrand E3 softener - any advice for cleaning
Author: thippe (ME)

hello, my softener stopped softening the water so i'm just going through the troubleshooting steps.
I checked for salt damns and emptied the brine tank.
I want to check the injector screen but I can't find any good youtube videos of how to open it without water pouring all over the place.

This is what I have gathered so far, if anyone can add to this please let me know!

--Turn the water softener control to the bypass mode
--Press and hold the regen button until it starts to count down the backwash cycle

so at this point i can see it emptying the water into the brine tank, but then obviously during the regen cycle the water gets sucked back in, right? Am i supposed to unplug it after its done draining into the brine tank so the water doesnt get sucked back in, or just wait and it wont be pressurized?

Nothing in your manual about that? Once you set the bypass valve to "Bypass," you just have to relieve the residual pressure in the valve and resin tank. I don't have the Hellenbrand, I have an Autotrol (whatever they are calling themselves now), and the flapper valves are accessible behind the control board & clock / panel screen. I don't recall exactly which flappers (that's in my manual), but I just toggle the appropriate valve with a screwdriver and the pressure is relieved. I can then open the injector port and disconnect from the bypass valve to check the metering impeller.

If you get to the point of checking the resin and find it is degraded ... [www.youtube.com]
