 Spud question
Author: miranda (IN)

See the images below. I believe I am posting the spud which also serves as the connector to the toilet. The tank and the toilet do not have bolt holes to connect the two. This spud thing has a bolt in the middle that connects to the toilet via the second image.

Here's my question.I can't replace the fill valve and the flapper gasket because that spud contraption is connected to the fill valve and flapper gasket. I don't know how to remove the spud because I am afraid it will break the tank. The spud is somehow attached to the fill valve and flapper gasket. I think the only way to remove the spud is to pound it out. Something will break.
Even if I did that, where do I find another spud like this that will attach to the toilet?
I think I need a whole new toilet and tank because how would I connect the tank with new parts to the toilet?

I do not know where you would ever find a replacement stud or tank for that model. A new toilet is your only option.

hj, i have never seen anything like that. what holds the tank to the bowl? do you tighten something inside the tank to expand a rubber washer?

The "T" head probably engages a slot inside the toilet. Case used a similar method, although they had a bolt from that went through the bowl with a nut and washer on the outside. They also had one with a "U" shaped spanner that bridged the opening in the toilet.

looking closer i do see a rectangular slot in the bowl. i also see a rectagular brass 'bar' at the bottom of the spud. possibly the bar slips into the slot and tightens from above.

Is there something that pulls the lower "cage" up against the rubber gasket, to compress it and allow it to attach/seal the tank to the bowl?

The center bolt through the fitting pulls the "angled piece" which secures the tank in place.

But if the tee portion of the bolt goes into the slot, inside the bowl, what contacts the bottom of the cage?

Ideally, NOTHING.
