I could smell mold for some time in our newly remodeled bathroom but there was none visible. Eventually I removed toilet tank lid and there was mold growing in and out the top of the overflow tube. What could possibly cause this and is there mold growing somewhere else for this to happen? Or is the problem in the toilet itself? There is no mold growing in the tank itself, just in the overflow tube. Of course I have removed the mold that was visible and have been pouring bleach down the tube. Any ideas?

I would wrap a stiff wire (No.9) would be best around a small bathroom wash cloth approx. 6' x 6". Dip it in the tank to get it soaked and carefully put it into the overflow tube to block any water from draining through and pour bleach into it. Let it set for a while then scrub from the bottom of the overflow tube to the top. That should kill any mold. Check it again in a week or so. Should do the trick.
