Refrigerator water line buried in floor tile grout
Author: Fridaylee (HI)

Bought a new frig and started to install the ice make water line in back and discovered that the contractor had cut off the line. My sink is across the frig about 4 feet away and the only way to install a new water line is to bury it in the grout line on the floor. Tile already installed is porcelain. I removed one tile length of grout and measured the width opening and it is 3/16". I believe that standard copper tubing is 1/4" and the connection to the frig and the cold water supply under the sink are 1/4". To avoid shaving a little tile, I am considering installing 3/16" copper tubing. Question is are there fittings, preferably, copper compression fittings to connect to the 3/16" copper tubing on one end and the 1/4" frig tubing that comes with the frig. Assume this would be some type of reducer. Local plumbing supply houses here in Hawaii do not stock any 3/16" copper fittings. Thanks for any help or comments. My back up plan A is to try to shave some tile to widen the grout line to 1/4" and use standard 1/4" copper fittings or B return the frig and go back to making ice manually.

3/16 copper might fit inside 1/4 inch copper. if so you can solder them together. no fittings needed.
