I have an exterior stairwell drain (outside basement door) that is clogged with mud. The challenge is that the grate covering the opening (approximately 3" x 3" is not removable. The head of a normal auger will NOT fit through the grate. I cut the auger head off and tried to snake it with just the coil, but to no avail. I don't want to have to bust the concrete to get the grate off. House is 1957 brick & block split in Silver Spring, MD (close-in suburb of WDC) and I am 99% sure that the drain is tied to the rest of the house's sewer lines. It definitely does NOT drain to a dry well or to a separate storm sewer.
I don't like to use chemicals, but is since I can't use a power auger or drain king, is there a chemical solution to dissolve the mud?
Thanks!

no
you must remove and replace the cover
you may need to saw or chisel it out and use a 'universal replacement'
