Hello,
We recently bought a fridge which has an ice maker and need help to hooking it up. The line will not reach out kitchen sink to tap off from. We have a cold water line tapped from the kitchen going to a washing machine. The tap of the cold water for the washing machine is the closest to the new fridge. We were thinking of buying a "Y" connector to split the tap into two, one would go to the cold of the washer and the other to the fridge water hose supplying the ice maker. The thing we trying to determine is what safety concerns should we think about when buying the connector? What materials are considered safe for consumption? Thank you for your feedback

Is there a cold shut off valve by the washer? If yes, remove it, install a tee fitting and then attach the washer valve to it and another valve for the refrigerator. If no valve there, still install a tee and the 2 valves.

You'll probably want to use brass fittings and copper tubing for the installation.
