Icemaker Water Line Routed Along Floor Underneath Quarter Round
Author: ECF (IL)

I live in a first floor condo on a concrete slab. My kitchen is a single aisle with the sink and water lines on one side and the refrigerator on the opposite side. A few years back we purchased a new refrigerator with an ice maker. I sweated in another water valve under the sink and routed a soft copper line from underneath the sink, underneath cabinets, along the floor trim protected by hardwood quarter-round, and then behind the fridge. The quarter round is 3/4" with a 3/8" cove cut; essentially, the copper line runs down a wood conduit along the baseboard. The soft copper line was then connected to a flex line and then to the refrigerator. It's a long line (~30ft) considering the linear distance from valve to refrigerator is about 8ft. No leaks to date; it's something I did once and haven't worried about it since. But I do wonder...

Are water lines allowed by code to run along the floor if protected?

I searched google looking for advise but didn't really find specific info to my question. Responses would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

-Eric F.

there is something in my code about plumbing being performed in a workman like manner. that kind of leaves it up to the inspector to say yes or no to any installation.

There's no problem (code wise )in the way you ran the pipe.
