 Automatic Toilet
Author: DrBrown2851 (OH)

In Japan a few years ago I had a hotel room with a Toto electronic toilet. When you walked in the bathroom, the lid came up. If you waved your hand, the seat came up. It had a night-life, a seat warmer, a built-in bidet, odor eliminator and even had music to cover up any unwanted noises. They're pretty expensive for a novelty. But if you decided to get one, is there anything that needs to be changed in the existing bathroom? Is the offset the same? Do you just need a regular 110V 15-20A circuit? And, is it a DIY project or does it need to be professionally installed? Thanks.

i put one in a few years ago.
it just bolts to a regular toilet flange. i believe it has a unifit adapter for bolting to the flange. it needs a 110 V outlet and it needs the water supply to be at least 8 inches left of center. other than that no difference.
funny story. the condo it was installed in had the smoke alarm go off when no one was home. the fire dept came right out, got a key from the condo manager and went inside to look around. no problem.. but when a fireman walked into the bathroom, the toilet seat went up. scared the guy for a moment. he then called all his buddies from other parts of the house to see the self opening toilet seat..they had quite a goog laugh..

Thank you for the response. I laughed at your fireman story ... mostly because I had the same reaction one night when I walked into the bathroom in my hotel room and the seat went up. Scared the daylights out of me.
