We moved into a new - for us - house and did not use the kitchen sink until after a new dishwasher was installed. Now it takes forever for the sink water to get hot, more than 5 minutes. The other day, my wife had the dishwasher running, and the water got hot right away and was hotter than she could bear. Any ideas.
The bathroom faucet is about 7 feet from the water heater and gets hot water within 10 seconds.
The kitchen faucet is about 20 feet from the water heater.

What kind of water heater? Tank storage or tankless?

electric tank, 40 gal.
The new dishwasher has a feature that heats the water to 160 degrees, so it sounds like it could be backing into the hot water line.

Very, very unlikely, unless the DW has a serious mechanical failure.

Any idea as to why for 6 months we did not get any really hot water, not even hot enough to get the grease off dishes until it ran for 10 minutes. It is still that way. The one time when we ran the hot faucet and it was scalding hot was as the dw was running.
We are trying to find out how to get the kitchen water as hot as the bathroom faucet.

Have you traced the hot water lines from the water tank to the various endpoints? Are there points in between before the kitchen?
Did you put a new water saver in the kitchen faucet that reduces the gpm flow?
How was the new dishwasher plumbed?
