Added some new plumbing in my house that consists of 3/4" copper pipe and a swing check valve (not spring loaded). The check valve is mounted horizontally as it is supposed to be. During pressure testing of this system (using compressor air) I noticed that the system had a small leak somewhere.
To make a long story short, if I cap the pipe downstream of the check valve my system passes the pressure test but if I remove the cap and rely only on the check valve to keep pressure, then there is a leak.
So my question is should I expect a check valve to hold pressure (50 psi in my test) when using air for the test?
Thanks in advance for your responses.

NO. It is only designed to prevent backflow under normal conditions, however if it has a "soft disc" then it may hold under pressure.

Thanks for your response. I thought that this was the answer but I thought that it would be prudent to confirm this before I did the rest of the plumbing.
