Broken fitting on water intake line, can someone give me a clue?
Author: reallydolly (FL)

Hi,

Arrived at my cabin to find the water intake line fitting froze and split. Fortunately the water was off.

I can't get a plumber till Tuesday, maybe. I'm on an island and that's how it is.

If I could remove the busted (possibly brass) fitting I could go to the hardware store and maybe find a replacement -- anything to get me through till Tuesday-ish, but I'm not sure how to take it off.

Any suggestions most appreciated.

In most cases you just cut the pipe and unscrew the fitting. However, depending on exactly whats broken something entirely different may need to be done.

If it is on a straight section of 3/4 copper pipe, (example) you can possibly make a temporary fix with a heater hose section and hose clamps (basicly automotive hose, you can buy it by the foot) slide the flexible hose on each side at least 4 inches and use 2 wide hose clamps on each side. Not a permenant fix.
