Moen bathroom sink drain
Author: Suffolk5 (NY) The stopper will not seal against the seat even with the lift rod disconnected and my wife pushing on the stopper. I have replaced the stopper and seat. The faucet is approx. two years old and has always done this.

Author: North Carolina Plumber (NC) Probably, you can watch the drain flange closely and usually see the water drain down to a level lower than the rim of the flange, if so it's a sure bet it's leaking around the flange.

Author: Suffolk5 (NY) It doesn't appear to be leaking between the flange and sink. Wouldn't there be water in the vanity if that were the case? The vanity is dry. Could the stopper and flange not seat right?

Author: Suffolk5 (NY) It keeps leaking until there is no water in the sink at all. If it is leaking around the flange wouldn't there be water in the vanity? It is dry.

Author: North Carolina Plumber (NC) No, if it's leaking around the drain flange, the water will still go down the drain, thru the overflow openings in the pop up assembly. As a test you could rub a little plumber's putty or caulking around the flange and see if it holds then.

Thanks for your advice
Author: Suffolk5 (NY) I tried your suggestion about using the plumber's putty and it stopped the leak. The plumber who installed the faucet and drain used putty and so did I when I replaced the flange. I guess putty doesn't work. I'll have to use silicone this time. Thanks for your advice.
