Being a single mom on a strict budget, installed new kitchen faucet last year. I had difficulty tightening the nut directly under the sink even with a basin wrench. There isn't a lot of room under the sink/cabinet to work and maneuver. The faucet has become very loose and leaks. The nut cannot be tightened any more. It only leaks when water is turned on. Is there an easy fix, like maybe installing a gasket so the nut will then tighten? I can't take the faucet back since it's been so long and being on a budget, I cannot afford a plumber at this point.

It should NOT leak when the faucet is on, nor any other time, so either the leak is not at that point or you have a serious problem. Who made the faucet?

these are two seperate problems.
if it leaks when the faucet is turned on then i suspect an "O" ring needs to be replaced.
if the faucet is loose on the sink then you need to tighten that nut from below.

Is the faucet a 'pull-out' style?
