Accessing Cartridge Two Handle Faucet (Moen?)
Author: Klempner (MN)

I'm a plumbing newbie and trying to fix a two handle bathroom faucet as part of selling my house, but I can't figure a few things out. My first question is the obvious one - do all modern bathroom faucets have cartridges? Secondly, how do I access them on this particular sink? I'm pretty sure it's a Moen if that gives any help. The small set screw is not on the top, but rather from the side (see pics). After removing it, nothing seemed to move or want to come apart. Any help would be appreciated. I'm also including a pic of what it looks like under the sink. I'm not sure what the square white connectors are. Could they be cartridges? Thanks for any feedback!

I recently repaired an American Standard faucet that looked just like yours. The entire top trim unscrews. Grab the square hub of the bell trim at the bottom and turn counter clockwise.

The square connector at the bottom is a quick connector and can be taken apart by squeezing the tab. It does not need to be taken apart for a cartridge replacement.

that's my guess as well. the square part should unscrew from the valve body.
as you turn the square part, check underneath to make sure the whole valve body is not turning. if it is turning you have to get a helper to hold underneath while you turn above.

Thanks for your feedback! Ok, so I found another set screw at the back bottom of the square base, and after removing it, turned the whole base to unscrew it as you suggested. It turned perfectly, but didn't unscrew. The handle to the sink didn't turn at all, however. I'm at a loss for what to do next. I tried cranking on the handle to see if that unscrewed, but it didn't give and I didn't want to break it by putting my full force into it. I also tried lifting up on the whole thing, but that didn't work either.

Thoughts?
