no hub fittings
Author: murraylberkowitz (NJ) Do most codes, or filed applications, adhere to the following rule of thumb? Shielded no hub are used above ground, and non-shielded, neoprene/rubber couplings are used below ground, I saw this on a plumbing web site and I thought it was the other way around. Please advise.

Author: packy (MA) some codes may vary but my code says sheilded inside the building ( above or below grade) and sheilded for a distance of 10 feet outside the foundation.

Author: packy (MA) we are allowed to use tubular plastic/metal on the inlet side of a trap. that is not much thicker than a toilet paper cardboard tube. you could use a non-sheilded rubber coupling there. (no danger of sewer gas)..

Author: packy (MA) i don't believe my code specifies much about approved materials on the inlet side of a trap. ISE disposers connect to a discharge tube with a thin rubber sleeve. dishwasher drains connect with thin rubber sleeves.
