I have had a problem with regulating pressure in my geothermal heating/air conditioning system for a number of years. The expansion tank did not seem to do its job. I removed the pressure from the water line and checked the pressure from the tank valve and I had no measurable pressure but lots of water coming out. I don't think the plumber who installed the system charged the tank on installation.

I removed the tank and drained both sides of the diaphragm and reinstalled the valve stem and pressurized the tank to 55 psi. So far, I don't see any air leak from the dry side to the water side and it seems to be holding it's charge.

Should I still change the tank?
