How to cap an unwanted sprayer outlet on a kitchen faucet?
Author: alexei (PA)

How to cap an unwanted sprayer outlet on a kitchen faucet? I want to cap the outlet at the faucet, not at the sprayer end.

The faucet is American Standard 4205.000 or 4205.001. The outlet for the sprayer is not 5/8'', but just a little smaller, so a 5/8'' brass cap does not skrew on the threads of the outlet! Customer service would not tell me exact diameter, so I measured with a caliper: 0.5135'' or 13.04mm (threads on the outside). Is this a standard diameter? Where could I get a cap or an "adapter" of that size? Thank you.

sometimes you need to take the faucet end of the hose and cut it a couple inches long. put a brass plug inside, hose clamp it tight and install that 'stub' back onto the faucet spray outlet.

The only "standard" dimension for a hose spray attachment is 1/4" ips, but that measures .54 o.d., so I cannot tell you what you can use to cap off your sprayer.

Thank you for both replies! First, a correction: the brass cap I tried and that was a few mm too large was 3/8, not 5/8.
Second, I am such a novice that I had no idea nominal is different from measured. Your reply clarified that.

I think that the pipe to sprayer is 1/4''. I see the discrepancy with my measurement and the expected "actual" diameter, but somehow I don't want to rule out 1/4" " yet.

I will get a 1/4" " cap, and try it.

Capping by cutting the tube is a clear alternative - thanks for that suggesion as well.

Sure enough: it was a 1/4" size. A brass cap of 1/4" fit perfectly! Thanks again!
