Okay, I shut off the main line coming into my home to install a utility sink in my basement. I also turned off the shut-off valve for the line going into the water heater and turned the water heater off. I cut into the hot line about 15 feet from the water heater, sweated a T on there to run a line down the wall to the utility sink. After everything was set I turned the main line back on – no leaks! The utility sink hot water ran perfectly. We then left for a while.
Upon returning home I discovered that the shower, faucet and toilet water in our 2nd floor master bedroom had nothing coming out of them. No hot, no cold. I then remembered I hadn't turned back on the water heater or the shut-off valve to the water heater so I corrected both of those. Still nothing in the master bath. The bathroom right next door to that one, however, is fine. Hot and cold running normally.
I have had the faucets open in the master for 1/2 hour now and nothing. I can't for the life of me figure it out. If I had screwed something up with the pipe sweating I did earlier then only the hot water should be affected since I haven't run the cold line to the utility sink yet, right?
It's almost like some unknown automatic shut-off valve got tripped or something. And I have no clue where something like that would be if it existed at all.
Does anyone have any ideas out there? Any solutions? Any thoughts are much appreciated.
Thanks!

how could you have hot water at the new sink when the valve to the water heater was shut?

Sounds like you may have a couple of things going on. You could have debris in the shut off valve under your sink. Turn the water off to disassemble the shower valve to remove debris that is blocking the mixing part or inlet to the hot on the shower valve. While the water is off remove the valve stem and bonnet and clear any debris by having someone open the water main for a second while you hold a bucket to catch the water under the sink. Just a quick on and off should blow it out. I suspect your water heater needs to be drained and flushed out also.

So I checked and downstairs all water is working! I can’t figure it out? It’s like if some secret hidden upstairs shut off valve was turned off by a ghost !! Please help!
