I recently purchased a 10 year old home and am in the process of finishing the basement. Unfortunately, Kitec PEX was used throughout the house. While there aren't any signs of failure with the piping, I am having difficulty completing the rough plumbing for the basement project.

The exposed hot and cold water lines in the basement are labeled IPEX PEX-AL-PEX 2025-3/4". My plumber is having difficulty connecting the new plumbing to the existing Kitec PEX. Kitec fittings are not available on the internet. He tried using a 3/4" shark bite but the Kitec piping is too small to fit securely into the shark bite.

I am just a homeowner so don't have the same knowledge as most of the people here. I wanted to see if anyone out there has ideas how the plumber can make the connection between new plumbing (we could use any material) and the 3/4" Kitec. Any advice would be appreciated.

Were you informed that Kitec was used in the home, prior to purchasing it?

No. No one told me. And I did have a reputable home inspector to inspect the home before I made the purchase.

Fittings are available online, you'll probably want a compression male adapter, so that your plumber can use a female adapter in the piping of his choice to transition to. Outdoor wood furnace websites have the fittings you seek.

I'd contact a lawyer, and go after the seller. They may have gotten a settlement from the class-action suit.

? And the seller's liability for non-disclosure of a (known) defective plumbing system ?

There was a class action settlement.

? Did the seller accept the cash, not do the re-pipe, then sell w/o disclosure ?

For some reason the OP was not interested in going after the seller. Maybe if it becomes a s..t storm, they may change their mind.

Check out the Veratek fitting company. Conversion fittings to change to any style of piping in the market. I have used them for installing a bathroom conversion. Worked great.

I recently bought a house and the plumbing is all KiTEC/IPEX XPA tubing, PEX-AL-PEX 2025 3/4" and 1/2". I had a plumbing contractor who went to install a whole house water filter, when he discovered the PEX fittings doe not work. We measured the ID/OD of the pipe and it looks like 3/4" ID and 1" OD and no local supplies have any fittings that will work (Sharkbits don't work, PEX, compression fittings, etc). So, it must be metric; does anyone know if the pipe is metric (25mm, and 32mm) and where can we find the fittings? Currently the main water line was cut and he rigged up something as a temporary solution, but I have to turn the main valve off everyday, just in-case. I really need this fixed ASAP.

However....during my search for the fitting, found this product has been discontinued and there is a clash action law suite. I put in a claim, but I have not filled out the entire claim form. I really don't feel comfortable with any of this product in my home.
