I am doing a home renovation with wall hung toilets for the first time. There is existing plumbing in the bathroom locations so is only the wall tank necessary or do I need the tank/carrier setup? Probably using the geberit tank and duravit toilet. Thanks

Follow the instructions that came with the Toilets and to be clear that you are doing it properly, call the manufacturer to verify that you have built the backing in the wall to support the wall hung toilets. This is CRITICAL to success. When you consider the weight of the toilet plus the weight of say a 280 lb. individual, we are talking about a very stable backing system, many of which are bolted down to the slab or conventional floor. Good luck but proceed carefully or you will be disappointed in wall hung toilets. Good luck... just do your research.

It's not clear from your description whether the existing plumbing was built for a conventional floor-mounted siphon jet or a wall-mounted washdown. That, of course, makes a big difference.
The installation manual for the carrier should have a full description of dimensions, mounting requirements, and other specifics.
Geberit, on their website, has a list of washdown bowls that will fit their carriers. [www.geberitnorthamerica.com]
I've had a Geberit carrier for about 15 years with a Porcher bowl, no problems. The pre-wall carrier is mounted in a fairly robust corner-braced 2x6 frame. The bottom flanges are lag-bolted into the 2x6 frame, and the bottom 2x6 is in turn lag-bolted into the old-growth joists below.
