Washing Machine Pump Drain Height Distance to Stand Pipe Limitations
Author: wildnutz (NH)

Hello. I recently relocated a washer from its original next-to stand-pipe/drain location to across the other side of the basement. The original set up was completely up to code with a loose drain hose/trapped tie in to the master vented municipal wastewater sewer that enters below the basement floor.

To accommodate the new location drain requirements, I am looking at running 1 1/2 inch PVC from that stand pipe up (with P-trap) vertically 4 feet, then over horizontally approx. 18 ft along a joist, and then down another 3 feet to a direct washer connection. The 18ft run will be graded slightly for gravity. And there will be a check valve in between the washer and new drain connection approximately 2 feet below the 90 degree fitting.

My questions are
1- is there any reason this set up wouldn't work. Are there any implications (am I missing a trap / vent somewhere given the distance to stand-pipe?)
2- would this be up to code in the state of NH?
3- would this potentially cause problems with the washing machine - to the point of burning out the pump pre-maturely? The unit is a Maytag MHW3505FW and the max height to pump to is 96" from the bottom of the washer. I don't think it's even 8 feet to the 90 degree elbow I'll end up having.
4- if I end up going with a dedicated drain/sump pump, can I direct connect it to the washer, or do you 'have' to incorporate a greywater / laundry tub (I do understand it's safer if the pump were to fail)
5- if I end up with the sump pump, what is a practical way to vent it if you aren't even close to an existing roof vent? Can it be vented to an outside wall (say adjacent to the dryer vent?)

Thanks!
