Did I need dope on facuet?
Author: ddbbp (KS)

I replaced the seat and springs (delta style) on an unknown faucet.

The springs and seats are inserted. Then the small cartridge. Then a plastic extender. A nipple like sleeve goes over all of that and has female threads.

It seals from the seat and springs correct?

Obviously cant get to the male threads in wall to add dope for the sleeve that goes over the top.

I assume I don't need it?

It was very hard to get the sleeve to start threading onto the male threads. I added a little 5-1 oil to the female threads to get it going. How tight should that be?

Cant really check for leaks either, how the heck am I supposed to see whats in the wall!! Blind faith perhaps?

The seats are what keeps the faucet from dripping. The o -rings on the stems are what keeps the water from leaking under the handles. Just snug is tight enough for the sleeves.
