 HWH high pressure relief
Author: Wildduk (GA)

I have a small 10g elec. heater that assists my on demand unit. It was installed new about 8 months ago. I have been noticing water spewing out of the high pressure relief valve. It doesn't do it all of the time, but every once in a while.
Is this normal and you just don't see it because it is vented outside? I haven't bothered doing that yet because it's in an unfinished basement.

Or is the water heater bad.

Thx

Point of use. It is not normal for a relief valve to weep, dribble, or gush. It is either defective or responding to a 'situation'.

Ok. It's not a point of use tank, it is part of a on demand gas unit, with a hot water circulation pump. Although I guess it really doesn't matter how it's used it should not sore water there right ???

Warranty it?

If it opens because of temperature, it will flow until the water cools down. If because of high presssure, it will stop when the excess pressure is relieved. Either way, (unless the pressure is caused by expansion so that a small amount of water will let it reset), it will keep running for a somewhat lengthy time. So you have to determine whether age, thermal expansion, temperature, or system pressure is causing it.
