Replace 1222 moen cartridge in bath, and have a dripping leak. cleaned the inside before inserting the new cartrige, there was no debree inside and I flusged to line. I did use plummers grease. Is there anything I can do to stop the drip, have tried two different cartriges, same drip? Is my only resulution replacing the pipes behind the wall?

if the valve body is damaged (crack or deep scratch) then yes you must change the valve.

And that usually only happens it you get "rough" with the valve when you remove the old core.

Before you give up, purchase a 3/4" copper cleaning brush with a handle on it and run it through the valve body a number of times. That will usually get rid of calcium or other mineral deposits that cause your leak at the O-rings and other gaskets on the sides.
