Hey guys How you all doing?
I am a housewife with a husband who doesn't give a flying f$$$ about stuff going bad in the house. We have a pipe under the kitchen sink that's been leaking for a year now. Unfortunately I keep asking, begging him to fix it but he keeps brushing it off. I want to order the parts and fix it myself, but I am clueless about what those things are called, what size I need, do I need the full assembly or not? I have a newborn so I really need this sink working. please help? its a bent pipe under the kitchen sink that connects to garbage disposal. I figured its called the p trap pipe? DO I have to replace the whole pipe or just the part that's leaking? are those all pipes the same diameter?

Hopefully you have a tubular p trap coming out of an ABS (black plastic) or PVC (White Plastic) adapter that is 1 1/2" in size. Take a photo from a couple of angles, of your connection under the sink to get the proper advice. But just so you will know the connection coming out of the Disposer usually makes a sharp down turn and connects to the waste (either a 2 part waste if you have a double sink) or directly into a trap. The Trap does look like a "P" and it connects to the horizontal pipe coming out of the wall. A Photo,if it is possible, would help get the right answer to your question. Here is a P Trap under a shower: [@#$%&[s286.photobucket.com]][/URL]

as said, it is pretty easy to do if it is a tubular trap. no special tools needed.
see here if you identify what you have and if not post a photo.

Take a picture of the piping under the sink and take it with you to a plumbing supply store or home improvement store and show the sales person what you want to replace.
