So recently after flushing our toilet, the tank fills up very slowly. From the sound, I could tell that the flow of water through the shut off valve was very slow. In order to return to normal flow, I shut off the valve and then turn it back on a couple seconds later. This returns the water to its normal flow.
We have pretty hard water so my thinking is that the valve has calcified and that I can simply take it off and clean it and then everything will be OK.
I'm looking for opinions and suggestions on how to clean the valve. By the way, it is a quarter turn shut off valve and it's probably only 2 to 3 years old.

Soak the internals in white vinegar or purchase a new valve and the internals from that. You will have less down time.

It is NOT the "shut off" valve, it is the fill valve in the toilet. Either replace it or clean/replace the fill valve's cap.
